Many films promised entire skies full of flying cars. While there are prototypes and small air taxis in development, several problems remain.

• Regulations and infrastructure would take years to catch up.

In the near term you are more likely to see improved electric cars and small delivery drones than queues of flying family cars.

Invisibility devices show up again and again in sci fi. Researchers have experimented with materials that bend light around small objects, but full body practical cloaks are a different challenge.

• They must handle movement gracefully without giving away outlines.
• There are serious ethical questions about privacy and misuse.

Universal translators for every language

Real time translation earbuds and apps are improving quickly, but they still struggle with slang, tone and noisy environments. The sci fi idea of perfect instant translation in every situation is still beyond reach.

• Language is full of context, culture and shared references.
• Many languages have limited digital training data.
• Body language and expressions matter as much as words.

Robots that match human level intelligence

Science fiction often shows robots that understand emotions perfectly and make complex decisions like people. Current AI can generate text and images, but general intelligence remains an open research problem.
