The 2nd generation Apple AirTag is a compact Bluetooth tracking device designed to help you locate everyday items such as keys, wallets, bags, and luggage using Apple's Find My network. Like the original model, it pairs instantly with an iPhone or iPad and uses nearby Apple devices to securely relay its location, allowing you to pinpoint lost belongings almost anywhere in the world. Precision Finding provides directional guidance, distance feedback, and audible alerts to guide you to the exact location of your item, while the replaceable CR2032 battery lasts around a year and the durable, water- and dust-resistant design makes it suitable for daily use.

The second-generation AirTag retains the same coin-sized design and accessory compatibility as the first model but introduces significant internal upgrades. Apple has enhanced the Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband technology, improving overall connectivity and tracking performance. These upgrades extend the effective finding range and make Precision Finding more responsive and reliable, especially when locating items hidden indoors or at greater distances.

One of the most noticeable improvements is the new second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which delivers more accurate location tracking and a substantially longer Precision Finding range than the original AirTag. Users can now locate items from much farther away and receive clearer directional guidance. The upgraded hardware also enables Precision Finding directly from compatible Apple Watch models, offering added convenience when your phone isn't nearby.

Apple has also redesigned the built-in speaker, making it up to 50% louder and easier to hear when searching for misplaced items, along with a clearer alert tone. Additional improvements include enhanced Share Item Location features for travel, allowing secure sharing with airlines, and continued support for safety alerts to discourage unwanted tracking. Despite these upgrades, battery life, pricing, and the familiar form factor remain unchanged, making the second-generation AirTag a refined and more capable evolution of an already reliable item tracker.
